5/25/2013
SPRING IS HERE!!

TOP TEN SPRING THINGS TO DO
  1. Time to Prune the 'Brown Out' - You should start to see new growth on plants that have been burnt from the freezes. If you don't see new growth, scratch the stems with your fingernail to see if it's green and start pruning.

  2. Check Your Irrigation - This is a 'sure' investment. Not only will you save money on wasted water but you won't have to replace your lawn or shrubs because they aren't getting water. Now you can spend your savings on #10.

  3. Adjust Your Lighting and Replace Bulbs - What?, you don't have a lighting system. What better way to enjoy your backyard paradise (after a long hard day) when it's dark. LED systems are 10% off this March.

  4. Fertilize - It's time to fertilize your shrubs and lawn. I use the University of Florida extension service calendar.

  5. Weed, Weed, Weed! - This is a great time to get ahead of it before it gets overwhelming. Also put down a pre-emergence, like Preen.

  6. Look Up! - Time to prune the trees before hurricane season approaches. For the big trees, e-mail me, I have a great certified arborist.

  7. Plant Your Containers - Tired of replacing annuals? Me too, so I use red Pentas, perennial Begonias and Salvias. Be creative, use Muhly grass with a large leaf sedum. (low water use and unusual...Awesome!)

  8. Replace Dead Patches in Lawn...or NOT! - Try a different ground cover like dwarf Jasmine or larger ground cover like Muhly grass and Coontie palm planted in large clusters. They all us less water and have few pests.

  9. If you've gotten this far on the list why not just go to #10.

  10. Reward Yourself! - Take that tax refund from all your hard work and buy yourself that backyard room or new LED lighting system. Hey, they're 10% off this March.
